Barnsley Gardens Resort
Resort Overview
Barnsley Gardens Resort has a rich history that dates back to the 1840s. Originally the residence of an Englishman named Godfrey Barnsley, the well known architect Andrew Jackson Downing designed the house and surrounding gardens, incorporating his signature Gothic revival style into the design. The resort managed to survive the Civil War in tact despite being in the direct path of Sherman's advance. It exists today as a luxurious resort destination that offers everything from quail hunting to a full-service spa, but it has still managed to maintain its elegant charm. The resort is home to an 18-hole championship golf course that boasts some of the fastest greens in the Southeast. Two clay tennis courts and a Grecian-style swimming pool are available for guests as well. Barnsley Gardens is an ideal place for nature-lovers with over twelve miles of scenic hiking trails and garden tours. There is also a beautiful lake where guests can enjoy fly-fishing, kayaking, and canoeing.
