Gerry Boucher, Golf Superintendent at Blue Rock, and his greens crew were recognized with the honor at Tee-Ball Golf's 2002 Golf Symposium on Tuesday, November 27 in Hyannis, MA.
The prestigious golf award is presented to the golf course that demonstrates conditions and service above and beyond the call of duty. Courses in both Barnstable and Plymouth counties are eligible for the honor, and the ballot scorecards take into consideration a number of factors, including course maintenance, service to the golfer by the entire golf course staff, speed of play, and the overall presentation of the golf facility, including the pro shop, practice areas, clubhouse, restaurant and snack bar.
The 2002 Golf Symposium, which was attended by golf professionals, hotel managers, retailers and other business owners, was held to discuss the future of golf in Southeastern Massachusetts. The event was sponsored by the Cape Cod-based Tee-Ball Golf, which strives to promote Cape Cod as a premier golf destination through the publication of The Little Black Book of Golf and the maintenance of several golf Web sites, including Golfcapecod.com.
Blue Rock Golf Course, called the "Finest Par Three in the Country" by Sports Illustrated, was recently ranked among the top five short courses in the nation by Golf Digest. The course is situated next to the Blue Rock Golf Resort in South Yarmouth.
